The Importance of Creating Your Business On Your Own Terms

Ingrid Miranda

Hello from Europe!

Working in every break
Working in every break

For those for follow us on Instagram must know already that I am visiting my family in Lisbon this Summer. And having this flexibility to travel and enjoy special moments with the ones that I love is what I love the most about having my own business.

Nowadays is much more common having friends & family spread into different cities or countries, and the flexibility and geographic freedom can be the biggest benefit a company can offer. The traditional 9-to-5 grind can feel like a never-ending cycle, trapping us in routines that often neglect our personal lives and dreams, right?

For many of us, breaking free from these constraints is the ultimate goal, driving us to create businesses that align with our personal and professional aspirations. As a Social Media Manager who has gone deep into this path, I want to share my journey and inspire new and small entrepreneurs to build businesses that truly reflect their needs and values.

The Joy of Flexibility: My Personal Journey

One of the most rewarding aspects of running my own business is the unparalleled flexibility it offers. As someone who is very family oriented, the ability to travel and visit my loved ones abroad while continuing to work has been a game-changer.

In my previous corporate job I needed to be in the office 4x/week, while only having 10 vacation days! And as a former Human Resources professional I can say that this schedule is more common than we should accept (I mean, 10 vacation days per year is not a lot!).

Don’t get me wrong: investing in my own business has brought me many more challenges than I could have imagined, but the important thing is to put in a balance which challenges are the ones that you choose. In my case, the ability to travel and work in ´weird´ hours fits my values - so it’s a win for sure!

I now can prioritize my personal life without compromising my professional commitments. This freedom is not just a luxury; it’s a necessity for maintaining a balanced, fulfilling life - for me.

Redefining Success: Aligning with Your Values

When you start your own business, it’s essential to define what success means to you. For some, it might be financial wealth or industry recognition. For others, like myself, it’s about creating a lifestyle that aligns with my values and passions. My business allows me to work from anywhere, at any time, ensuring that I never miss important family moments or the chance to explore new places.

As you embark on your entrepreneurial journey, consider what truly matters to you. Don’t get caught up in doing what everyone else says is the right thing. Instead, focus on building a business that supports your broader life goals. Whether it’s spending more time with family, traveling, or pursuing hobbies, your business should be a tool that enhances your life, not a cage that confines it.

Consistency on Your Terms: Sustainable Social Media Management

A common misconception in the world of social media management is that success requires constant posting and a relentless online presence. However, consistency doesn’t mean posting every day. It means maintaining a posting calendar that fits your schedule and aligns with your business strategy. Quality over quantity is key. By planning and organizing your content, you can ensure a steady online presence without sacrificing your personal time or well-being.

This approach not only reduces stress but also allows you to produce more meaningful and engaging content. Your audience will appreciate the thoughtfulness and authenticity behind your posts, which can ultimately lead to stronger connections and a more loyal following.

Encouraging New Entrepreneurs: Break the Mold

To all the aspiring entrepreneurs out there, remember that your business is a reflection of you. It’s an extension of your dreams, values, and goals. Don’t feel pressured to follow conventional paths or adhere to industry norms that don’t resonate with you. Break the mold and create a business that suits your unique needs.

Start by identifying your priorities and building your business around them. If flexibility and freedom are important to you, structure your operations to allow for that. Utilize tools and strategies that support remote work, delegate tasks that don’t require your direct attention, and always keep your bigger picture in mind.

I am so grateful for being able to enjoy these moments with my family!

Only who have family abroad understands that these moments are so special (and rare)!

Celebrating the Benefits: Freedom and Flexibility

One of the greatest rewards of creating your own business is the freedom and flexibility it affords. You have the power to design your work schedule, choose your work environment, and balance your professional and personal lives in a way that brings you joy and fulfillment. This autonomy not only enhances your quality of life but also fuels your passion and creativity, driving your business to new heights.

Who else agrees? :)

Building a business on your own terms is not just about financial success; it’s about creating a life that you love. To all the new and small entrepreneurs out there, take the leap. Break the cycle of conventional wisdom and build a business that truly reflects your values and aspirations. Your future self will thank you.
