Let’s talk aesthetics, and how it can save your profile!

Hey friends,

I’m glad to have you back! In a previous post (that you can check here) we discussed why aesthetics matter and the common struggles small business owners face when creating visually appealing content for Instagram. The reality is that the days go by fast, and owning a (small) business can consume a lot of time between all the tasks, right?

Today, I want to dive deeper into how you can leverage aesthetics to build a strong, authentic brand presence that resonates with your audience.

Authenticity: Aligning Content with Your Style, Values, and Goals

Your Instagram profile is a reflection of your brand, and authenticity is key to making that reflection true to who you are. Internet is not about following trends to go viral anymore; it’s about creating content that aligns with your unique style, values, and business goals, to connect with your audience and build a loyal community. But, as good as it sounds, how can you practice it?

  1. Stay True to Your Brand: Use your aesthetics to tell your brand’s story. Whether it’s through color choices, imagery, or typography, ensure that every visual element reflects your brand’s identity, and make it a pattern.

  2. Choose Trends Wisely: It’s easy to get caught up in the latest Instagram trends, but not every trend will align with your brand. Jump on trends that make sense for your business, and adapt them in a way that stays true to your values.

  3. Consistency is Key: Maintaining a consistent aesthetic helps reinforce your brand message. Your audience should be able to recognize your content instantly, even when scrolling quickly through their feed.

Nourishing Your Community

While reaching new followers is important, don’t lose sight of the community you already have. A strong aesthetic can help attract new eyes, but it’s your engagement and connection with your existing followers that will keep them coming back!!

  1. Engage Meaningfully: Take time to respond to comments, share user-generated content, and interact with your followers. This builds a loyal community that feels valued and heard.

  2. Create Value-Driven Content: Focus on content that offers real value to your followers, whether it’s tips, inspiration, or behind-the-scenes looks at your business. This keeps your audience engaged and invested in your brand - and it’s also known as ’evergreen’ content (without an expiration date).

  3. Balance Reach and Retention: While it’s tempting to focus solely on growing your follower count, remember that nurturing your current community can lead to stronger, more sustainable growth over time.

Creating a Signature Series

One effective way to establish a recognizable brand on Instagram and TikTok is by creating a small content series that you can be known for. This not only helps with consistency but also builds anticipation and engagement with your audience.

  1. Choose a Theme: Select a theme that aligns with your brand and resonates with your audience. It could be a weekly tips series, a behind-the-scenes look at your business, or even customer success stories.

  2. Keep It Simple: The series doesn’t have to be complex—sometimes, simplicity is more impactful. The key is consistency and delivering value.

  3. Promote and Share: Make sure your audience knows when to expect new installments of your series. Use Instagram stories, highlights, and even reels to keep your followers engaged and looking forward to the next post.

Creative Content Creation on a Busy Schedule

We all have days when creativity feels out of reach, or our schedules are too packed to focus on Instagram content. But with a little planning and strategy, you can still create engaging content that maintains your brand’s aesthetic.

  1. Batch Create Content: Set aside a few hours each week to create multiple posts at once. This way, you’re not scrambling to produce content daily, and you can ensure consistency across your feed.

  2. Repurpose Existing Content: Don’t hesitate to revisit and repurpose older content. A well-performing post can be transformed into a new format, such as turning a popular blog post into a carousel or reel.

  3. Use Templates: Templates save time and maintain a cohesive look across your feed. Customize them with your brand colors, fonts, and imagery to ensure they align with your aesthetic.

  4. Leverage User-Generated Content: Encourage your customers to share their experiences with your products or services. Sharing their posts not only fills your content calendar but also builds community and trust.

  5. Keep a Content Idea Bank: Whenever inspiration strikes, jot it down. Having a list of content ideas to draw from can be a lifesaver on those busy or uninspired days. I like to use the Notes app to write down all the ideas I have while researching other similar accounts, walking in the street, watching a movie... we never know when inspiration will come to us, so have a easy-to-reach space to take notes for when you are on your creator mode is key!
