Organic Growth vs. Paid Ads – Building Connections That Last

Social media can be overwhelming, and as a small business owner you’ve likely wondered whether it’s better to grow organically or invest in paid ads to speed up your results at some point since launching your small business, correct?!

Both methods have their pros, but today, I want to take you with me and dive into why I believe organic growth often provides a deeper, more lasting impact for small businesses—and how it can benefit you in building an engaged, loyal community.

Shall we?

So let’s start from the very beginning:

What’s the Difference Between Organic Growth vs. Paid Ads

We we say ´organic growth´ we are referring to attracting followers and building engagement naturally, without spending on promotions. For that, we invest in consistent posting, authentic interactions, and creating valuable content that resonates with your audience.

Paid ads, on the other hand, allow you to pay to reach a broader or targeted audience quickly, increasing your visibility and, potentially, your followers and conversions.

The Benefits of Organic Growth

Being very honest with you, both way have their own benefits and can help you depending on your main goal with your account—but, as a Social Media Manager, I have learned though working with my clients, that organic growth creates deeper connections for the long run. For us, one of the most significant benefits of organic growth is authentic connection. When followers find you organically, they’re more likely to be genuinely interested in your content or products, rather than simply scrolling past an ad. This creates a stronger bond and a sense of trust, as they’re following you because they see value in what you share, not because they were “sold” to.

Also, organic followers tend to stay engaged longer and are more loyal. They’ll be more willing to comment, save, or share your content, which in turn, boosts your reach even further without any extra cost. For small businesses, this kind of support is invaluable, right? Unlike ads, which often lead to temporary spikes in visibility, organic growth builds a community around your brand—one that values and believes in what you do.

When Ads Can Help

As I said, both methods have their own benefits that can vary according with what your goal is. Ads are great for boosting visibility quickly, launching new products, or running promotions when you need immediate eyes on your content. Ads can complement organic growth by driving new followers who may not have found you otherwise. But without an authentic connection, these followers may not engage meaningfully over time, which is why balancing paid reach with organic engagement is crucial.

Why Organic is Better for Long-Term Success

In my experience, growing organically leads to a community of followers who not only support you but actively contribute to your brand’s growth. When your focus is on organic methods, you’ll have insights into what your audience loves, and you’ll naturally create content that speaks to their needs and interests. This engagement loop becomes a powerful tool that ads alone can’t replicate.

For small business owners, time is always limited, so if you have to choose, my advice is to start with an organic approach to cultivate trust and connection. These loyal relationships are the foundation of brand success.
