Why Playfulness and Creativity Are Essential for Your Business Success

Ingrid Miranda

Another Thursday, another blog post from your Social Media Bestie! 💖 Today, I’m excited to share something super fun (and definitely a bit out of my comfort zone) that I recently did: my very first at-home branding photoshoot!

As a social media manager and aesthetic branding expert, I had the pleasure of spending the day with my favorite photographer - aka my dad, who’s visiting from Portugal! We transformed a cozy corner of the house into a creative studio, and the result? A branding photoshoot that truly represents me and my business, The LAB (we all know it’s my baby!).

There’s something magical about setting up the scene, capturing that perfect light, and watching everything come together just as I envisioned. It took me back to my days in Fashion School, where I worked as a producer and stylist on countless photoshoots. That nostalgia hit hard, but even more so, it reminded me of a critical lesson: the importance of playing creatively in our business.

The Power of Creativity in Business

For many small business owners - whether you're a photographer, a fashion designer, or a coach - creativity is at the heart of what you do. But between managing client projects, keeping up with admin work, and trying to stay visible online, it’s easy to lose sight of why you started in the first place. That’s where creative play comes in.

When you allow yourself the space to experiment, be curious, and lean into creative freedom, you reconnect with your brand’s mission. During my photoshoot, I played around with different setups, outfits, captured moments from unique angles, and gave myself permission to create without constraints - and I even kept the camera rolling as I was on a meeting with a new client! The result? A fresh perspective on my business's direction, and an even deeper understanding of the aesthetic I want to communicate.

Rediscovering Your Brand’s Mission and Value

Taking the time to play creatively isn’t just about capturing great photos - it’s about rediscovering your brand’s mission. What is it that you want to communicate? What values define your brand? For me, my core values of authenticity, empowerment, and aesthetic creativity shined through during my shoot. This creative practice helped me clarify what I want my business to stand for and how I can empower my clients to do the same.

And you can implement this too! Take a moment to ask yourself:

  • What inspires you about your work?

  • How can you infuse your brand with creativity that resonates with your audience?

  • How can you turn your vision into visually stunning, value-driven content?

How You Can Start Playing Creatively with Your Brand

Not sure where to start? Here are some steps to help you tap into your creative side and reconnect with your brand’s values:

  1. Set up a creative workspace: Whether it’s for photoshoots or brainstorming, having a dedicated space for creativity encourages freedom and expression.

  2. Plan a creative day: Block out time in your calendar to experiment - whether it’s creating content, exploring new ideas, or working on a personal project.

  3. Experiment with visuals: Explore different lighting, settings, and concepts for your content. Aesthetic branding doesn’t have to be rigid - creativity thrives when you play with ideas.

  4. Revisit your brand’s mission: Align your creative efforts with your brand’s core values. Every piece of content should tell a story that’s in line with what you stand for.

In a world where small businesses often get caught up in the hustle of day-to-day tasks, playing creatively can be your brand's secret weapon to staying authentic, connected, and inspired.
